praise Jesus'

PRAISE FOCUS: JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL AND TANGIBLE WORD OF GOD

Text: 1 John 1:1 (KJV)

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life."

John wrote this verse to establish beyond every doubt who Jesus Christ is. Every expression in this verse gives us another reason to lift our voices in praise. Tonight, we will allow this one verse to lead us in celebrating the Lord Jesus Christ.

1. We Praise Jesus Because He Has No Beginning

John opens with the words, "That which was from the beginning." Before speaking about what Jesus did, he speaks about who Jesus is. Christ did not begin at Bethlehem. He existed before creation because He is the eternal God.

John 1:1-3 (KJV) says:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

Since the One we worship has no beginning and no ending, our confidence in Him can never fail. That is why we praise Him.

2. We Praise Jesus Because He Is the Living Word of God

John closes the verse by calling Jesus "the Word of life." This means Jesus is God's living revelation to mankind. Everything God wants us to know about Himself is perfectly revealed in His Son.

John 1:14 (KJV) says:

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us... full of grace and truth."

We praise Jesus because He is not merely a messenger from God. He is the Living Word of God Himself.

3. We Praise Jesus Because He Is Real

John says, "which we have heard... which we have seen with our eyes... which we have looked upon... and our hands have handled." Those words show that Jesus was not an idea, a vision, or a story. The apostles personally knew Him.

2 Peter 1:16 (KJV) says:

"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables... but were eyewitnesses of his majesty."

Our faith is built upon a living Christ. That is why we praise Him with confidence.

4. We Praise Jesus Because He Is Our Greatest Need Today

John says they heard Him and received His message because Jesus alone has the words of eternal life. The same Jesus remains the answer to the deepest needs of our generation.

Nigeria and the nations face fear, insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, and spiritual darkness. Yet none of these problems is greater than Christ.

Acts 4:12 (KJV) says:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

We praise Him because what the world needs most is not another system but the Lord Jesus Christ.

5. We Praise Jesus Because He Is Our Keeper and Constant Companion

John says, "which we have heard... which we have seen..." because Jesus lived among His disciples. He walked with them, taught them, protected them, and never abandoned them.

Today He still walks with His people.

Matthew 28:20 (KJV) says:

"...and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

We praise Him because He is still our Keeper, our Defender, and our Constant Companion.

6. We Praise Jesus Because the Church Must Point the World to Him

John wrote this testimony so others would know and believe in Christ. The purpose of the Church is still the same today. We are not called to point people to ourselves, but to Jesus.

Colossians 1:18 (KJV) says:

"...that in all things he might have the preeminence."

Every sermon, every prayer meeting, every choir ministration, and every believer should make Jesus more visible. That is why we praise Him.

7. We Praise Jesus Because He Alone Is Worthy

The whole verse reaches its climax in the words "the Word of life." The eternal Christ who was from the beginning, whom the apostles heard, saw, examined, and handled, is the same Christ who reigns forever. There is no one like Him in heaven or on earth.

Revelation 5:12 (KJV) says:

"Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

Therefore, tonight we praise Jesus because He has no beginning, He is the Living Word of God, He is real, He is our greatest need today, He is our Keeper and Constant Companion, the Church must point the world to Him, and He alone is worthy of all praise. Let every voice exalt Him, for He is the Eternal and Tangible Word of God. Amen.
